If you need to have mobile home insurance, you may or may not know much about this type of coverage. Most of the time, we are usually aware of what our policies cover. But, there are some things about mobile home insurance policies that you may find confusing.

What kind of insurance do you need for a mobile home? Is mobile home insurance expensive? What will I need to get mobile home insurance? What is considered a mobile home for insurance purposes? Is a modular home the same as a mobile home?

Our mobile home insurance what you should know guide has the answers to these questions as well as some of the more faqs about mobile home insurance that you’ve always wanted to know, but were too afraid to ask about.

Already asking yourself how can I easily compare rates for your mobile home, then you should try out our free online quote option. Just type in your ZIP code to receive detailed quotes from multiple mobile home insurance companies in your area. It’s that simple.

What does mobile home insurance cover? And, how does mobile insurance work?

You’ll find that everything covered under a standard home insurance policy is the same as what is covered by mobile home insurance policy. The physical structure itself is protected against damage as well as attached structures.

Your mobile home insurance policy will also cover both liability and personal property within the mobile home up to a certain limit. It works just as a standard home insurance policy does to protect your mobile home investment.

What kind of coverage should I consider for a mobile home?

The type of coverage you should consider depends on a variety of factors. The age of your mobile home, location, and even weather patterns can all play a role in what type and how much coverage you choose to take out.

It’s probably best that you create a mobile home insurance checklist to make sure your mobile home is fully covered.

Do I need to have replacement cost included in my coverage?

You really do need to have the replacement coverage for your home and your personal possessions. Without replacement cost coverage, you will not be able to receive the value that you paid for your possessions, and only will receive what they are currently worth.

You may have to pay a higher premium to have this type of coverage, but it is definitely worth it if you have to replace your possessions or your home.

Are guns covered by my mobile home insurance?

Many people own guns, and in a lot of cases, these guns are not properly insured against theft or damage. Although they are in your home, they are not considered to be regular possessions, and therefore are not covered by your regular mobile home insurance. You will have to purchase additional coverage to make sure that you will be able to replace your guns in the event that they are stolen, damaged or destroyed. There are some categories for certain possessions that provide more affordable premiums. These categories need to be scheduled.

Are there other items that I need to schedule?

Just like guns, there are other items that you may have that are not going to be covered by your basic mobile home insurance. These items can include, but are not limited to, computers, camera equipment, coins, furs, fine art, silverware, jewelry, musical instruments, stamps, and other items that are extremely expensive. The extra coverage to protect these possessions is going to cost more, but it is a lot less than the cost to replace any, or all of these items should anything happen to them.

Should I purchase separate flood insurance?

Often, flood damage is not covered by any homeowner’s insurance policy, including mobile home insurance, depending on where you live. If you live in an area that is subject to heavy rains, and flooding is a possibility, you should purchase additional flood insurance to make sure that if anything happens to your home, you will be able to afford the cost of the repairs. This is one time where your coverage may differ from that of a traditional homeowner’s policy, because in many cases, flood and earthquake coverage is included in mobile home insurance policies.

If I move my mobile home, am I covered if there are any damages to the home?

Your mobile home insurance will probably include trip collision coverage. This is going to cover any expenses involved in repairs or replacing a mobile home that is damaged while in transit from one place to another. Because this is not something that you are going to need all of the time, you will pay a one-time premium to have this coverage while you are moving your home.

What if I only live in my mobile home for a few months out of the year? Am I still covered?

Many people live in places seasonally, such as those who head to warmer climates for the winter. In such cases, there is a separate type of mobile home insurance that will cover owners even when they are not living in their mobile homes. This coverage will be comprehensive coverage, and it includes theft. It is also referred to as a seasonal insurance policy.

Can I insure a mobile home that is more than 30 years old?

There are many insurance companies that will provide you with the mobile home insurance coverage you need, even if you old an older model mobile home. Your premiums may be higher, depending on the condition of your home, but if you have made improvements, and have upgraded security features, it will help to lower your rates.
